Our keynote speaker was Ms. Jessica James Peavy, Founder of Beyond the Tears Advocacy and pioneer for #JusticeforCaleb. Mrs. Peavy truly exemplifies that of a survivor and carries the legacy of her son, Caleb James, everywhere she goes to advocate and teach others about Teen Dating Violence. Her efforts since losing her son in 2021 have gained national attention and displayed the lengths of Mrs. Peavy's strength, courage and faith!

Our special guest speaker was Ms. Patrica Wenskunas, Founder/CEO of Crime Survivors Inc. Ms. Wenskunas has gained national renown for her tireless advocacy on behalf of the victims of violent crime. Ms. Wenskunas was one of the early proponents of California’s Victim’s Bill of Rights known as “Marsy’s Law,” a state constitutional amendment that was passed into law by California’s voters in 2008. Ms. Wenskunas’ passion to assist those who have been victimized by criminal attacks and tragedy is driven by her own personal experiences at the hands of a vicious assailant in her own home on April 4, 2002. Ms. Wenskunas is the definition of a Thriver!
Kelie Sturgis
Chief Operations Officer
Project Peace Makers Inc. (PPMI)
Our Thriver's Award Recipient was Ms. Kelie Sturgis, Chief Operations Office from Project Peace Makers Inc. (PPMI) a Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Victims’ Advocacy agency located in the heart of South Los Angeles. Ms. Sturgis has implemented several policies and procedures that have advanced the opportunity to service more of the underrepresented community of minorities, LGBTQ+ and low-income individuals and families. Her goal for the agency is to continue to receive grant funding that would allow all clients to receive services for free. The actions and nature of Ms. Sturgis have shown her more than fitting of the Thriver's Award for 2022!
